現代において、鉄道駅の存在は都市全体に影響を与えるものであり、鉄道駅を中心としたまちづくりが行われている。
とくに都心部の鉄道駅では、交通機関にとどまらない商業施設としての側面をもち、都市機能の中枢を担っている。
しかし、利用者増加によるニーズの多様化、沿線環境の変化など駅空間の充実と同時に問題点も多く出てきており、急速に変化する駅空間において、現状の問題点を改善したより魅力的な駅空間が求められている。

In the present age, the existence of the railroad station affects the whole city, and making it is performed the town around the railroad station.
